Rabble of Robots

My name is Anna Nickelson and I recently graduated with a Ph.D. in Robotics at Oregon State University. Prior to grad school, I received a Bachelors in Math from Cal Poly in 2012 then spent six years working my way from intern to Project Manager for Dolby Labs in San Francisco.

My next step is to work within the federal government to help them figure out what to do about AI and autonomous systems.

My high-level goals are…

• Create autonomous systems to have a positive impact
• Work with policy makers to mitigate negative impacts of AI and autonomy
• Push for Responsible AI in the tech industry and federal government

My research interests include:

• Autonomous decision making in situations where there’s no right answer
• In-home and assistive robotics
• Technology policy
• Societal impact of new technologies, automation, and robotics
• Science communication
